高内容のプライベート出版作!!セミや鳥、カエルといった生物と一緒に演奏を行う面白コンポーザー/クラリネット奏者David Rothenberg。ここ数年は池の水中音を記録する活動を行なっており、本作はそれらの記録を纏め上げた完全プライベートな音源[Secret Songs of Ponds]。自作のハイドロフォンを使い水中の神秘的騒音を捉えた非常に素晴らしい作品に仕上がっており、一部自身の演奏と絡めたセッション的な録音もありますが、本作に関しては殆どがフィールドレコーディングという硬派な作り込みがカッコイイ。









Over the last few years, David Rothenberg has been exploring the underwater sounds of ponds, rhythms and bleeps made by photosynthesizing plants and stridulating insects, plus a handful of truly mysterious unknown noises.

He uses a special hydrophone of his own manufacture, called the Aquabeat, also available from Bandcamp in the merch section.

Starting in those pandemic years when it was impossible to travel far from the forests and waters of his Hudson Valley home, he began to perform live with these sounds on iPad-controlled electronics and his usual clarinets.

Later he brought in distant online collaborators, most notably the Turkish poet and philosopher Ilgin Deniz Akseloglu.

In January 2024 his book on the subject, SECRET SOUNDS OF PONDS was published by Roof Books.

Limited edition signed and numbered copies are available in the merch section, along with this special album-version of the music which is described in detail inside the book.

The pieces on this album are of course slightly different.... And the download versions available here are of higher sound quality than the streaming versions available elsewhere.
