クセナキス、フェルドマン、ケージ、シュトックハウゼンら重鎮のパーカッション・ワークスを演奏する名打楽器奏者であり、カリフォルニア大学サンディエゴ校の音楽教授なども務めるSteven Schick。個人名義で発表されている音源はほぼ存在せず、本作はその数少ない一つである1997年〜1998年までの録音を纏めたアルバム[Drumming in the dark]。フィンランドの女性コンポーザーKaija Saariahoによる龍安寺を含む日本の6つの庭をコンセプトとした激ヤバ作[Six Japanese Gardens]に始まり、クセナキスの[Rebonds]、ロジャー・レイノルズの[Watershed I]へと流れていく、まさに玄人好みの激シブ打楽器演奏集。2020年に体制が変わった米コンテンポラリー/実験の老舗Neuma Recordsの出版作。
